The Wrong Side

I woke up this morning on the wrong side of Joyce's "The Dead"

With pulled pork punches and bait-and-switch breath

Dreams reaming my psyche like some diamond drills;

This obtuse mindset will be the cure that kills

I deserve respect!

Or death!

Or something to that effect...

Maybe redemption's near,

But it hasn't happened yet

But it's not even the news or government that taunts:

Politics stain Facebook and local restaurants!

Going about my day as a respectful individual

Has my interactions cutting my sanity's residual

After all

And my reach is small

And my bank account's hurting

For some recompense for certain

If I could capitalize inane shit

Like the current head of government,

I'd put price tags on my witticisms

And charge the sources of my criticisms!

Being a human being in a world so keen to harassing

That decency's considered suspect - it's embarrassing

How do I decide which one is worse:

Watching my country die

Or driving its hearse?

Like Father Jack, I say, "REVERSE! REVERSE!"

In this immigrant nation selectively closing its borders

While white men make decisions for its country's daughters,

How can we claim to be accepting and united states

When the hegemony drives divides that increase internal hate?

Apostates.

Disunited states.

Blue Lives Matter as black ones are laid to waste.

"Christianity's" the norm, so you'd best not tempt fate.

Woke Culture sounds great with such low stakes

As to accept the appellation as all it takes

To be deemed one of the righteous folks

As easily as a whisk blends yolks

Whites...

We delude ourselves, right?

"I'm not racist, but" shit flies

If there are minorities we like

"I've got a gay friend, so I can still say 'fag'"

"'Nigger' and 'nigga' have the same roots - dag"

"The Civil War was always about states' rights.

Just don't question those rights and not expect a fight"

Tell that to victims:

Ashes of American fags

Lynched niggers

Queers smeared

Wetback setbacks

Chink rives mattel prease

Spic panic

Recognizing historic racism while not glorifying it

Has folks demolishing monuments,

Yet many remain decrying it

Accountability's dead

God save the pristine

Wealth-based oligarchy rules

I'd love to offer solutions to our turmoil

But I gotta run - need to slut-shame my gerbil
